Blackbox animated a series colorful and vibrant short loops to celebrate the things around the office we love and can't live without.
SOUND ON!
For this self directed project we wanted to try out a new art style that can be challenging to pull off. Gradients!
There is an added level of technical complexities that come when working with gradients. The designs are dealing with more colors, and care is taken in layout as to how those colors all combine and look against one another.  It can be more difficult to hide "seams" in layers and moving parts that make up a single graphic because the color isn't uniform across the entire object. Also special consideration is given to how the gradient moves when an object does - is it locked in place, or does the gradient move independently? We had so much fun designing and animating these concepts.
Every project always starts with the spark of an idea. We learn as much as we can, find inspiration, and then get to work.
The first step in bringing that idea to life is always the sketching process. Here the idea is put to paper and explored. Sketching lets us quickly make variations on the idea and test what is working and what's not. Eventually some pop out that are pretty good! These ideas become the conceptual basis that inform the entire piece.
Below you can see some of the initial sketches and how close they are to the final animations.
