This feature film follows the lives of three young Black Milwaukeeans growing up in a city that presents real challenges and staggering negative statistics. Sharing deep personal hardships, the film opens a door to a world of struggle while coming of age in the heart of the city.
The Blackbox team established a textured, black and white layered look to help carry the complexity of the film. Bird’s-eye views of Milwaukee and its urban areas, alongside geometric shapes, help reveal each person's identity. The layers and slow build-up of the graphics are very much inspired by the beauty and hardships shown in Tyshun's film.
